Types of Braces

Thanks to today’s advances in orthodontic technology, Georgetown Orthodontics can provide our patients with more options than ever before when it comes to wearing braces. While traditional metal braces are still widely used, clear braces are very popular with teens and adults who may be more self-conscious about wearing traditional braces, along with Invisalign removable aligners, the “braceless” alternative to straight teeth. Our Doctors will help you determine which treatment option is right for you.

Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces used today.  They are smaller and more comfortable than ever before and constructed of high-grade, space age metal alloys. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored ligatures (o-rings) for a more unique and colorful smile.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used more often on teenage and adult patients who may have aesthetic concerns about wearing traditional metal braces.

Invisalign

Clear aligners, such as Invisalign, use a series of aligner trays to straighten your teeth. Invisalign aligners are removable so you are not limited in what you can eat and drink during treatment. Even though they are removable, they do require at least 22 hours of wear per day to be effective. During your initial consultation, Dr. Bentley can determine if you would be a good candidate for this type of treatment. There are certain limitations on the types of orthodontic problems these removable plastic aligners can correct.Invisalign
